  • "Hume" conceptually contrasts two places: home and home away from home. I painted this while at college in New York, a period where I experienced immense isolation. Through the process of painting the place I was forced to be and the place I longed for, I was reminded that the season was only temporary. By the time the painting was complete, I was on my way home!

The composition is split in two. The lower section is dark and fragile, reflecting the cold weather and isolating experience in New York. The top half of the painting is lush with plant growth and light, reminiscent of my home in Texas. The symbolic bridge which exits the composition, represents hope for better times ahead. By depicting both places, I aim to emphasize that there are many seasons in life. Like the weather, not all are warm and bright, but certainly temporary.
